Climate Change Cockpit challenge

How might we enhance collaboration through the Climate Change Cockpit by integrating tools for sharing data and insights among different organizations and experts?

About the challenge partners

For this challenge the Austrian National Tourist Office partners with the Bundesrechenzentrum.

A central concern of the Austrian National Tourist Office as the national tourism organization is to work together with all Austrian tourism partners to enhance the competitiveness of Austria as a tourism destination. We focus on innovation and promote the development of necessary competencies to enable tomorrow’s travel.

The Bundesrechenzentrum GmbH (Austrian Federal Computing Center), is Austria’s leading technology company for the public sector. As a federal computing center, it provides comprehensive IT services and solutions to federal agencies and other public institutions in Austria. Established to streamline and enhance the efficiency of government operations, BRZ GmbH focuses on developing secure, innovative, and reliable digital services that support administrative functions, e-government initiatives, and public service delivery. Its role is critical in managing data centers, providing cybersecurity measures, and implementing cutting-edge technology that helps the Austrian government meet the evolving needs of its citizens and ensure the smooth operation of the country’s digital infrastructure.

The problem to solve

The initiation of the Climate Change Cockpit was driven by the critical issue of environmental data being fragmented across multiple silos, making it challenging to obtain a holistic view and effectively address environmental challenges. In collaboration with the Austrian National Tourist Office, the Climate Change Cockpit was developed as a centralized platform to consolidate these disparate data sources, providing a comprehensive and accessible overview of environmental conditions and trends. This integration aims to enhance decision-making capabilities and strategic planning in addressing climate-related issues. Moving forward, there is a compelling need to further develop and expand this platform to include more diverse data inputs and advanced analytical tools, thereby increasing its effectiveness and scope in combating environmental challenges.
