InnoDays #AlpineTech – Recap

4 challenges, 270 participants, 40+ mentors, and 49 prototypes! The InnoDays Alpine Tech has been our largest event ever. Participants from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland worked for 48 hours to prototype solutions to four exciting innovation challenges. Two of the challenges focused on circularity. Pyua Ecorrect Wear asked: “How might we design a rental service for sports-fashion products in a way that delivers convenience and value for customers and that reduces environmental impact?“; while Alpex and StandortAgentur asked: “Which products might we design with hemp fiber composites to foster a closed-loop, circular system in the alps?“. The other two challenges focused on safety. Tyromont asked: “How might we design a light, stable and sustainable Akja?“, and ABS asked: “How might we create new ways to trigger the airbag’s inflation to not depend on the rider pulling the handle?

With the help of mentors from diverse domains, our participants improved their initial concept ideas to provide a compelling final solution to the challenges. A jury formed by company partners and experts evaluated the ideas based on four criteria: innovativeness, presentation, challenge fit, feasibility, and continuation. The winner of the circular clothing category was ClothSub, an innovative subscription service for sportswear. The Hempers won the circular hemp category with a concept idea for a modular camping tent designed with flexible hemp fiber. Modularity was central to the winning idea in the Akja redesign category too. The Folding Pieces suggested breaking down the Akja rescue sled into modules that can be more easily carried on the mountains by the rescue teams. Finally, ABS selected A.Aurras avalanche detection system as the winner in the Airbag trigger category. Congratulations to all the winners and nonwinners for realizing such impressive solutions in a short time. We will be on the look for your next steps after the company implementation discussions.
